Georgios Karagiorgos is a journalist, editor, and media researcher whose work focuses on freedom of expression, media pluralism, and the role of journalism in safeguarding democratic discourse. He is a journalist and editor with European Youth Press / PulseZ, where he produces reporting and multimedia work on contemporary societal issues, civic participation, and democratic resilience.
He serves as Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Representative in Greece for the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI), working with news organisations to strengthen transparency and accountability through a standards-based framework.
He also served as a Research & Advocacy Officer at the International Center for the Safety of Journalists (ICSJ), supporting work on journalist safety and press freedom. In this role, he initiated Greece’s anti-SLAPP coordination in partnership with CASE (the Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe), establishing ICSJ as CASE’s national focal point in Greece.
He has contributed to cross-country research as a Research Fellow at the Regional Academy of the United Nations (RAUN) in collaboration with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, and as an Associate Researcher at the International Peace Journalism Lab (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). He has also been selected for the Anna Lindh Foundation’s Voicing Youth Knowledge programme, researching youth-led protest movements in Greece, Italy, and Turkey as drivers of democratic resilience, with outcomes to be presented in 2026.
His distinctions include the VOICES Award (Digital Parenting & Generations), presented by the European Association for Viewers’ Interests (EAVI) at the VOICES Festival for Journalism and Media Literacy in Zagreb, alongside scholarships from the European University Institute (Widening Europe), Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Master’s studies), and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (CSIS Journalism Bootcamp).
