A Greek startup revolutionizes water conservation

Named Greek Company of the Year 2025, WaterLoop proudly represented JA Greece at JA Europe Gen-E, Europe’s largest youth entrepreneurship festival.

At a time when sustainable management of natural resources is becoming a matter of urgency, the Greek company WaterLoop presents an innovative solution that promises to change the way we use water in our daily lives. At the cutting edge of this green technology, digital control. WaterLoop combines recycling with leakage prevention, providing citizens with the ability to manage “smarter” the most precious natural resource, water.

Innovation meets water management

One of the innovations introduced by WaterLoop is the reuse of so-called “grey” water, i.e. water that has already been used in showers, sinks or washing machines, water that is not suitable for drinking. However, through special treatment systems, this water is purified and reused for uses such as toilet flushing or irrigation. According to the company, the technology can reduce consumption by up to 50% without requiring any change in the user’s daily habits.

At the same time, the company has incorporated a “smart” flow system, with sensors that immediately detect leaks or high consumption. Monitoring is done in real time and in case of “anomalies”, the user receives a notification on his mobile phone through a special application, so this system not only works proactively, preventing material damage, but also contributes substantially to reducing waste.

WaterLoop seems to aspire to contribute to the formation of a new culture around the use of water, a culture of circular reuse, promoting individual responsibility combined with technological innovation. As more and more regions of the world face water supply problems and the effects of the climate crisis deepen, the need for solutions to perhaps the problem that will plague our century like few others are products not just of necessity but of survival.

Clearing the way to the sustainable water supply market

The company is already on a growth trajectory, attracting interest from hotels, tourist accommodation, smart buildings and energy communities. With cutting-edge technology and an ecological footprint at its core, the company aims to establish itself internationally as a leading player in the field of sustainable water management. Its message is clear: water is not inexhaustible and every drop counts.

Preventing a problem that looks set to intensify in the future comes from a generation interested in responding to it in the present. Behind WaterLoop is a group of students who started with an idea in a classroom – Public School, Greece, the Highschool of Magoula – and managed to excel at a national level. The team won first place in the 20th Panhellenic Student Virtual Business Competition of Junior Achievement Greece and represented Greece in the European Competition JA Europe GEN-E, held in Athens on 3 July 2025.

The new generation that innovates for tomorrow

Behind the WaterLoop project are the students Anastasios Peppas, Aggeliki Selimi, Myrto Syleouni, Panagiotis Straitouris and Panagiotis Trimponias from the 1st and 2nd grade. Socrates Raptodimos and Ioannis Christofas also participate in the group, under the guidance of teachers Katerina Dretaki and Athanasios Ntardas. Their example proves that innovation has no age, and that the future of sustainable technology is built by those who dare to imagine a different world. If the future belongs to the bold, then WaterLoop has already taken the first, and most crucial, step.
