The hard work and effort young athletes put into training in Malta feel less rewarding, as the results often do not match the sacrifices they make. It is also very rare for athletes in Malta to make it abroad and succeed at a high level, which can discourage others from trying.

Having better sports facilities in Malta would change this, as they would give children more chances to train properly, develop their skills, and compete fairly. Good facilities would also help athletes stay motivated, attract professional coaches, and even bring international competitions to Malta, which would inspire the younger generation and give local athletes the chance to showcase their talent on a bigger stage.

A big change I would like to see is more investment in sports facilities and opportunities both in Malta and Gozo. At the moment, many athletes train hard but do not always get the support or resources they need to improve and reach higher levels. By investing in better pitches, gyms, running tracks, swimming pools, and indoor arenas, children and young athletes would have a fair chance to practice and compete in the right environment. In Gozo, this is even more important because opportunities are limited, and many athletes have to travel to Malta just to find proper training. With strong investment, both islands could give athletes the chance to grow, stay motivated, and possibly succeed abroad. It would also encourage more young people to take part in sports, leading to healthier lifestyles and a stronger sports culture in the country.

I would convince others it matters by showing how sports investment benefits everyone, not just athletes. Good sports facilities give children a safe place to train and improve, which helps them build confidence, discipline, and teamwork. This can keep young people away from unhealthy habits and guide them toward a positive lifestyle. For Malta and Gozo, better sports opportunities also mean more chances to develop local talent, create national pride, and even attract international events that boost tourism and the economy. When athletes succeed, they inspire others and show that with the right support, Maltese and Gozitan players can compete abroad too. So, investing in sports is not just about winning but it is about building a healthier, stronger, and more united community.
