The European Vulnerability Database (EUVD) is now operational. It collects and provides reliable, up-to-date information on cybersecurity vulnerabilities that may affect information and communication technology products and services. Vulnerabilities in computer systems are weaknesses or flaws in software, hardware, or networks that can be exploited by hackers or malicious individuals to compromise the security of a system. Essentially, they can be thought of as "open doors" within a computer system that expose it to external threats.

This new tool was developed by the European Union Agency for Information Security (ENISA) in accordance with the NIS2 Directive , a European regulation aimed at increasing the level of cybersecurity. The European Union's strategy is clear: to standardize cybersecurity policies across all EU countries. Juhan Lepassaar, Executive Director of ENISA, called it "an essential tool designed to substantially improve the management of vulnerabilities and the associated risks" within the EU.

How the new database works

The goal of this platform is to create an interconnected space that gathers information from multiple sources, such as CSIRTs (Computer Security Incident Response Teams), vendors, and existing databases, to enable "better cybersecurity risk management." The Italian CSIRT portal is also an excellent place to consult to understand the cyber scams currently circulating .
