Applications for DiscoverEU, the EU program for 18-year-olds offering free train travel throughout Europe, open today, October 30, 2025. The initiative is open to those born between January 1 and December 31, 2007, and living in Europe. Participants can participate in groups of up to five people or individually, but to obtain the pass, they must pass an EU-themed quiz. Applications open on the initiative’s official website until November 13. Let’s see how it works in detail.
How the DiscoverEU Pass Works
The initiative launched by the European Union as part of the Erasmus+ program allows young people who turned 18 this year (or are about to turn 18) to travel free on trains for up to 30 consecutive days. The pass allows free train travel, in second or economy class, and provides access to a range of discounts for accommodation, cultural, educational, and sports activities, as well as public transportation, food, and restaurants. With some exceptions for those arriving from islands or remote regions, the pass cannot be used for air travel. In any case, departures cannot be scheduled before March 1, 2026.
