Use the Right Name and Pronouns
Never assume someone’s pronouns—simply ask or listen to how they introduce themselves. Always respect a person’s chosen name and avoid using their dead name (the name they were given at birth) unless it’s legally required (don’t say it out loud ,unless is required to).Using the right name and pronouns is a basic way to show respect.

Use Inclusive Language
Gender identity isn’t always visible, so avoid making assumptions. Instead of saying “ladies and gentlemen,” opt for inclusive phrases like “everyone.” Simple language changes help create a more comfortable space for everyone!
Provide Gender-Neutral Spaces
Where possible, offer gender-neutral bathrooms and changing rooms. This small adjustment can make a huge difference, especially for those who may not feel safe or comfortable using gendered facilities or did not come-out (the act of openly sharing one’s gender identity or sexual orientation).
Adopt an “Alias Career” System
In Italy, many workplaces, universities, and schools use a system called “carriera alias” (alias career), allowing trans people to use their chosen name on internal documents, ID badges, and email addresses—even if their legal documents haven’t been updated yet. This simple step can prevent distress and misgendering. Other workplaces around the world should consider implementing similar systems to support their trans employees and students.
Stand Up Against Discrimination
Shut down transphobic jokes and comments when you hear them. Promote awareness and training on gender diversity so more people understand the challenges trans individuals face. The more informed we are, the more inclusive we can be.
Build a Culture of Support
Encourage open conversations, create support networks, and ensure trans people feel safe and valued. Seeing trans individuals in leadership roles also helps set an example for inclusivity.
