AccessibleEU \u2014 the EU\u2019s flagship initiative for advancing accessibility \u2014 has wrapped up 2024 with impressive achievements that didn\u2019t just meet expectations but went far beyond them. With a growing network of experts, smarter digital tools, new ways to measure progress, and nearly 90 events across Europe, this second year of the initiative marks a significant leap toward a more inclusive Union.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exceeding Goals, Delivering Results <\/p>\n

According to the newly published <\/span>2024 Summary Report<\/span><\/a>, AccessibleEU successfully met all its annual targets \u2014 and even surpassed them. The report opens with a bold statement: <\/span>\u201cAll objectives exceeded.\u201d<\/span><\/i> That\u2019s not just a symbolic gesture \u2014 it\u2019s proof that accessibility efforts are becoming more than words on paper. They\u2019re now part of a structured, data-driven, and well-managed European mission.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the biggest milestones of the year was the launch of a new set of accessibility indicators. These tools are helping EU Member States track real progress and assess the actual impact of accessibility laws and technical standards. The data is publicly available on a dedicated platform: <\/span>AccessibleEU \u2013 Accessibility Monitoring<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first time, accessibility in Europe is being measured, compared, and managed based on reliable data \u2014 moving it from theory into action.<\/span><\/p>\n

Experts, Practitioners, and a Growing Community <\/p>\n

But AccessibleEU\u2019s success isn\u2019t just about numbers \u2014 it\u2019s about people.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, the initiative hosted 88 events, including two major EU-wide online courses. These gatherings helped raise awareness, share expertise, and boost the professional skills of those working to make Europe more accessible.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to these efforts, the <\/span>Community of Practice<\/span><\/a> \u2014 an informal network of accessibility professionals and advocates \u2014 grew to over 3,400 members. This vibrant community plays a key role in implementing accessibility across both public and private sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n

To support knowledge-sharing, a new online forum on Moodle was launched, providing members with a digital space to exchange ideas and experiences. In today\u2019s multilingual, cross-border projects, such platforms are becoming essential to build and sustain collaborative efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

A digital library of real-world solutions<\/b><\/h3>\n

AccessibleEU also expanded its digital library, adding 163 new Best Practices and 136 reference materials in 2024 alone. These resources don\u2019t just inspire \u2014 they guide decision-makers at both EU and national levels when drafting and implementing accessibility policies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crucially, all materials are provided in accessible formats to ensure they\u2019re usable by everyone, including people with disabilities \u2014 turning principles into practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

The library\u2019s content is available in English, French, and German, making it a valuable tool for stakeholders across Europe\u2019s diverse legal and administrative systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

More than a report \u2014 a roadmap for the future<\/b><\/h3>\n

The 2024 Summary Report may close one chapter, but it clearly signals that the journey is far from over. The achievements so far are only the beginning \u2014 a strong foundation for even more coordinated, standardized, and professional accessibility efforts in the years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

The report reminds us that accessibility shouldn\u2019t be seen as a cost or an obligation. It\u2019s an investment in social inclusion, market competitiveness, and the quality of life of EU citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to transparent reporting and the development of tools that help implement EU regulations, AccessibleEU is becoming a key mechanism supporting the rollout of the European Accessibility Act and other related legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n
