Other EU Member States, such as Ireland and Germany, may follow suit by introducing mandatory age verification mechanisms or minimum access ages for certain categories of digital services.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1180\">\u201cThese rules are about giving children a digital space that supports their wellbeing,\u201d said Margrethe Vestager, Commission Executive Vice-President.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1182\" data-end=\"1356\">While non-binding, the new guidelines set clear expectations for how platforms must act &#8211; and the European Board for Digital Services will monitor compliance across the bloc.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1358\" data-end=\"1386\">Key recommendations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1358\" data-end=\"1386\">Mandatory private profiles for minors by default<\/li>\n<li>Safer recommender systems to avoid harmful content and addictive loops<\/li>\n<li>Stronger tools to block, mute, and avoid group spam<\/li>\n<li>Bans on downloads\/screenshots of minors\u2019 posts to curb sexual exploitation<\/li>\n<li>Disabling engagement-driving features like streaks, autoplay, and push alerts<\/li>\n<li>Child-friendly terms, AI safeguards, and ad transparency<\/li>\n<li>Limits on manipulative monetisation tactics like loot boxes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1886\" data-end=\"2060\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The rules apply to all platforms accessible to minors, except small and micro businesses.
