The application process is <em>quite strict<\/em>, and you&#8217;ll need to showcase your knowledge of <strong>probability<\/strong> and <strong>European history<\/strong>.\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>But what is DiscoverEU?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You might be <em>familiar with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interrail.eu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interrail<\/a><\/em>, the paid pass that allows you to travel across Europe. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Well, guess what? If you&#8217;re selected, you can <em>travel by train or boat for FREE<\/em> across Europe for up to <strong>7 travel days<\/strong> within a<strong> 1-month period<\/strong>! Additionally, you&#8217;ll receive a <em>DiscoverEU European Youth Card<\/em>, granting you discounts on cultural visits, sports, accommodation, and more. \u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>What do you need?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Perhaps I was a bit <em>dramatic<\/em> about the application process, but it&#8217;s not that easy! To apply, you must:\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be <strong>18<\/strong> during the travel period;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide a<strong> valid<\/strong> identity card (ID), passport, or residence card number in the online application form.\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be a <strong>citizen<\/strong> or <strong>resident<\/strong> of one of the following countries:\u200b<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the Member States of the European Union, including Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), or\u200b<\/span><\/em><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the third countries associated with the Erasmus+ programme: Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, or T\u00fcrkiye. \u200b<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>The challenging quiz:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Next, you&#8217;ll need to participate in <em>a quiz<\/em> (unless you apply as a group member; in that case, the group leader will take it for all of you). The quiz consists of:\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5 multiple-choice questions on general knowledge about the European Union and other EU initiatives targeting young people.\u200b<\/span><\/em><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A subsidiary question (yes, this is where your probability knowledge comes into play). \u200b<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For example, when I applied, they asked:\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;In this round of applications, how many candidates will have declared their intention to start the journey in June 2025?&#8221;\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I guessed 30,000 and was close enough!\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the second round, my friend was asked:\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;In this application round, how many applicants will have declared that they would like to travel alone when submitting the application?&#8221;\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>My thoughts\u2026<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I might seem a bit obvious here, but when I applied for this project in Italy, almost nobody knew about it! I&#8217;m so glad I was selected (you&#8217;ll surely see a lot of content about this trip). It\u2019s an inspiring opportunity <em>to debate, make new friends, and exchange ideas with interesting people from every corner of the globe<\/em>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This event takes place every two years and is hosted inside the <strong>European Parliament<\/strong> in Strasbourg, as well as around the vibrant <\/span><b>EYE Village<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Tracks &amp; Activities<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EYE offers a wide variety of hybrid and in-person activities: panels, workshops, guided tours, Q&amp;As, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The program is designed to be flexible and engaging, with three main tracks:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>ENGAGE Track:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Curious about how the European Union works? Dive into the \u201cENGAGE\u201d track to expand your knowledge and discuss with real decision-makers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>EMPOWER Track:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Want to strengthen your active citizenship skills? The \u201cEMPOWER\u201d track helps you build confidence and learn how to make a real impact.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>CONNECT Track:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Looking to meet people from different cultures? The \u201cCONNECT\u201d track is all about networking and cultural exchange.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>How to Participate<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As you may have already read, you can join the EYE either <\/span><b>online<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><b>in person<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (although applications are currently closed). It\u2019s focused on LGBTQI+ activism and runs multiple projects for <strong>queer youth, as well as other marginalized communities<\/strong>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of its most exciting initiatives is the Activist Academy, a 7-day annual training program. In 2025, it\u2019s happening from July 13\u201319 in Tampere, Finland!<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>What about the cost?<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Good news: if you&#8217;re selected, <em>accommodation and meals are fully covered<\/em>, and travel costs are reimbursed up to <strong>\u20ac300 for EU<\/strong> participants and <strong>\u20ac350<\/strong> <strong>for those outside the EU<\/strong>. So yes \u2014 it\u2019s extremely accessible!<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><b>How does it work?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here\u2019s an overview of how the program is structured:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Preparatory online sessions (logistics, accessibility, and code of conduct)<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ice-breakers &amp; introductory activities<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Workshops led by experts<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Real-life, skill-based activist tasks<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Presentation of your work<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Who can apply?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You\u2019re eligible if you:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are a beginner or intermediate queer activist (or want to become one)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Live in a Council of Europe member state, or in Russia,Belarus, or Kosova<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00a0Have intermediate to advanced English skills<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Inclusion &amp; Representation<\/b><\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIGLYO particularly welcomes applications from underrepresented groups such as young women, trans youth, non-binary youth, intersex youth, Black and other youth of colour, ethnic minorities, refugees, migrants, sex workers, disabled and neurodivergent youth, youth living with HIV, and fat youth.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are committed to making our events accessible and inclusive for everyone.
